In most cases, you will spend about half of your budget on the reception. And the costs of wedding dresses will be about one tenth of your budget. The decorations of the venues will probably cost you another one tenth. And the remaining 30% can be divided to your wedding invitation, wedding favor, music etc.

Now you should know how much you will spend on each item. Then you have to work on your planning work. Taking your wedding reception as an example, you have to rent the venue. You also have to think about the catering services.

If you are planning to invite 100 people, you will probably need to spend $150 for each guest for the reception. It will be a total of $15,000. Then you will know that you will need a budget of about $30,000. If you think this is too much for you, you may need to cut down the number of guests you are going to invite or try to find some budget option for your wedding items.

Of course the above example is only a basic guideline for you to consider at the very beginning. Your budget should be set according to your situation. And there is no set rule for you to calculate your budget accurately. You need to understand your needs and try to layout the budget for your wedding.
