Chin Reduction - the Basics

Chin reduction surgery also commonly known as Genioplasty. This type of chin reduction is often performed on the patients with poorly developed chin ( also known as microgenia). Genioplasty surgery helps to reduce the protruding chin by taking the excess bone or the enlarged bone piece from the chin bone of the patient. The Genioplasty chin surgery is performed with an incision inside the mouth of the patient in the lower lip area. The patient will have swelling for more then two weeks and in some cases it may last for even more two months until the newly placed bone completely heals.

Chin Reduction surgery is the procedure where the incision is performed either in the mouth or under the chin. The surgery will take from less than an hour to approximately three hours.

You will experience some tenderness and swelling on the face where the incision is done. It is advisable to take proper medication as prescribed by the plastic surgeon in order to relieve from post-operative discomfort. Certain risk factors that are attached to the post chin surgery are like avoiding chewing food for few days and limiting to liquid and semi-solid diet. In some cases most of the patients might feel stretched and have sensation after the surgery but that will subside if you adhere to take your proper medication as advised by your plastic surgeon and the pain will reduce gradually in a weeks ten day time.Post operative care is very important to make sure that you get the best results from the surgery.
