Interior Design Tips For Conservatory Blinds

By: Dominic Donaldson

There are a few well known facts about conservatories. They are too cold to be in in the winter, they are too hot to sit in in the summer and they lose a lot of heat, making them very bad for the environment. They are good for growing tomatoes in though, but a greenhouse is a better option. This is a brief guide about how to choose conservatory blinds and bust the stereotypical reputation.

The best time for making the most of conservatory space is during the summer, unfortunately with the sun beaming in, it can quickly become too warm. Using conservatory blinds to shut out the heat is one option, but it is a shame to block out the light. Specialist UV resistant conservatory blinds can help keep the temperature stable without spoiling the view.

These blinds use a mixture of plastic and metal laminated together to form a barrier that will deflect solar energy and absorb solar radiation. As well as helping to keep the temperature down in the summer, these blinds can help protect the health of those who live in the house by blocking out harmful rays that can cause skin cancer and premature ageing. Ultra violet rays are also responsible to the sun bleaching of soft furnishings.

Other conservatory blinds are made out of more traditional materials, such as fabric or wood. The benefit of purchasing these types of window coverings is that they can be coordinated with the colour scheme of the conservatory decor. Having a matching colour scheme makes the space feel more unified and it is a plus point when selling a property.

Another alternative is to invest in a special film that can be applied directly to the window. These can be clear or coloured and work by stopping the UV rays entering the conservatory in a similar way to the blinds. This film is ideal to use on conservatory roofs and can be used effectively in conjunction with other types of conservatory blinds and curtains.

Mixing and matching curtains and blinds means that you can insulate the conservatory during colder months. The UV resistant film also helps trap heat into the conservatory during the winter as well as shielding from the heat of the summer sun. This will not only lower your fuel bills, but it will help reduce emissions, potentially saving the planet as well as saving you money in the long term.
