Properly Using Directory Submission To Build Links

By: Marx Marx

Many people use directory submission as a means of building links to their website. This is a great option to build links but it should be used with caution due to the fact that search engines such as Google especially are cracking down on certain types of directories.

As long as you know how to locate the good directories from the bad then you will not have any trouble with directory submission.

How Do I know If Directory Is Ok For My Link?
There are a few different ways to make sure that the directory that you are going to submit your link to is Google friendly for your site. The easiest way to check is to take the url of the web directory and go to google.com and input the following command into the search bar: Site:EnterTheURLHere Example site:www.google.com

By inputting this command and clicking search you will be brought to the results page which shows all the pages that Google has indexed for the given url of your search. So if a directory is not Google friendly it will definitely not be in the Google index.

If your search returns no results that does not mean that the directory is certainly a bad directory to submit your link too. New directories will usually not have any indexed pages in Google at the beginning, so if the directory is new then the chances are that Google has not updated its search results yet.

The other way to check if a directory is ok for you to submit your link is to use a free online tool that checks for sites that are banned in Google.

By checking if the site is banned in Google you will know right away if the directory is ok for submission.

How Do I submit My Link?
Ok so you have located a directory that you want to submit your link into, and now you want to properly submit your details into the directory the correct way for best results. You should know what your sites keywords are prior to beginning the submission process, the keywords are going to be used in the title and description of your link submission.

Start with the title, you should use one of your keywords for the actual title of the link. You can use variations of your keyword as long as you still use the main keywords somewhere in the title. Next, write your description and try to place your keyword into the description about 2-3 times depending on the length of the description.

By optimizing your title and description with your keyword you are adding to the SEO value of the link greatly because the page that links to you from the directory will be keyword optimized to match your website which gives more credibility in the eyes of Google.

Keep Switching Up Your keyword Link
If you plan to continue link submission to more directories then you should try to vary your keyword among the different directories so that your link building looks more natural to the search engines.

If you continue to use the same title over and over for each submission then this looks completely automated which Google does NOT like. So be sure to switch up the order of your keywords in the title as much as possible when submitting links.

So, if you are looking for an easy way to get some good links then follow the steps above to locate and submit your link to good high quality directories. The best directories to submit to are those that are directly related to your niche.

So if you can locate some nice niche directories then you should take advantage of them as much as possible. Good luck with your link building!
