Selling your Southern California real estate property is a multi step process, and many first time sellers rush into the process without taking time to carefully consider important criteria and steps. Do not let this happen to you. This article will provide some helpful tips.

The most important thing that you can do is to emotionally disconnect yourself from your house. This may be harder than you think, even if you are more than ready to sell it and move on to a new home, and particularly so if you have spent many years there. So what to do. Take a tour of a model home for sale and note the depersonalized decor. No family photos, neutral furniture, no knick knacks or mementos, no clutter.

This should be your cue to gather up all of the personal items and clutter in your house and put it in a storage unit. Even better, have a garage sale to get rid of f some of the items that you no longer use or need first. It is hard to know what constitutes clutter, but if really does affect the way that potential buyers see your home. This means that you need to remove clutter from shelves, counter tops, garages, attics, basements, closets, and everywhere else. Ask a friend or your agent to identify the clutter in your house, and instead of taking their observations personally, use them as tips to help you sell your home that much faster.

When it comes to clutter, the kitchen is one of the most cluttered rooms in the house, partly because of all of the appliances. Start getting into the habit of putting appliances away in cabinets when they are not in use, and clean out all of your junk drawers. Either throw the junk away or store it if it something that you might actually want to keep. The same goes for crowded pantries and under the sink, because people will look there, whether you think that they will or not. De cluttering your home is not limited to your kitchen however; you should also sell or store excess furniture, exercise equipment, and other large items. Do not store them in your basement, since the point of this exercise is to eliminate clutter and excess from the entire house, not just the parts that people most frequently see. Again, a garage sale may be the best first step in selling your Southern California real estate property.
