The seven senses include taste, smell, hearing, touch, internal sensations, balance, and sight. These senses pick up different kinds of information everyday and all the information are sent to the brain. The body consequently responds to what the brain has interpreted data.

The body responses will involve feelings. Addicts who have undergone the holistic approach to recovery were quite surprised to learn that humans cannot feel thoughts. They are able to learn that anxiety and depression are just physical sensations. Thoughts could bring forth physical distress if the brain construes the thought to be a threat.

The sensations you are feeling will bring about tension, tightness, heaviness, pressure, and other feelings. These changes usually lead to anxiety and depression which could further lead to heart attacks and other serious conditions. If this process is not slowed down, recovery cannot be achieved.

The holistic approach to recovery will teach the addicts to consistently and effectively ease their physical sensations. Patients are then taught how to notice the senses, identify specific thoughts that are recurring, and how the body will actually feel. The recovering addicts will now have the power in handling anxiety and depression that will lead to addictive behavior.
