Weight Loss Plans to Avoid at All Costs

By: Jessica Robuck - McGranaghan

There are so many people and businesses out there trying to make money from the difficulties of others. The weight loss industry is a massive money-making industry, and people are willing to sell just about anything to get in on the industry in an attempt to get rich quick. The individual struggling with weight loss is easily forgotten. However, there are a few tips to determining if a weight loss plan is bogus.

Avoid all category diets. Avoid diets that eliminate an entire food group, or highlight a single food group to eat from only. These type of diets (the all grapefruit diet, the no carb diet, the meat only diet, etc) create an unbalanced nutritional intake for your body, and prevent you from getting the well-rounded nutrition necessary to lose weight.

Avoid meal replacement diets. These type of diets replace a meal with a shake or bowl of cereal. These diets lead to some pretty severe cravings, as your body is not consuming enough calories consistently throughout the day. These cravings lead to cheating and to binge eating, which lead to failure. It is important with weight loss to keep within a steady plan that fits you. If you can not wait until dinner going on just two shakes all day, then that is not the right plan for you.

Avoid claims of miraculous weight loss. Diets that claim to make you lose weight while you sleep or drop 20 pounds in two weeks are not only usually making false claims, but also are downright unhealthy for your body. The human body is not designed to change so rapidly, and gradual, steady weight loss is the best method for a healthy lifestyle change.

Avoid unreasonable demands. If a weight loss plan wants you to eat pre-designated meals that taste like cardboard or have portions that do not begin to touch your hunger, this plan will probably not work for you. These demands might be acceptable for some people, but if it does not fit your needs, then avoid it. Losing weight and keeping it off requires commitment and dedication that you can still live with.

Avoid claims of "You do not have to change a thing." Of course you have to change what you are doing right now. The lifestyle you live is the reason you appear as you do. If you want to produce change, then change your lifestyle. It really is as simple as that. Losing weight and becoming healthier means you must change your life to reflect that healthiness you want to eliminate. Eliminate the unhealthy choices... the fast food, emotional eating, late night snacking, soda, fried foods, etc, etc, etc ... and make the healthy choices ... exercise, vegetables and fruits, drink water, no overeating, positive thinking and determination.

Feel good about yourself and what you are trying to accomplish, a healthy lifestyle change just might be the change that saves your life!
