What Every Owner Should Know About Dog Allergies

When you hear somebody talking about dog allergies you think about the person sitting at home sneezing and rubbing their red watery itchy eyes. Even though that is what most people think about, have you ever thought about the dog that actually has the allergies. The truth of the matter is that it is not only the pet owner that can suffer from dog allergies but also the dog.

Dog allergies are not the same as human allergies, dog allergies, however just like humans allergies in the fact the dog allergies can come from many different sources. One of the most common dog allergies is reactions to the ingredients in the food that you are feeding them. It is harder to monitor dog food because typically not as much care goes into dog food preparation, if you expect that your dog is having a reaction to their food, the more expensive the brand the more preparation that goes into it.

Just like human beings dogs can also be allergic to dust, they even have the same symptoms, watery eyes, sneezing and a difficult time breathing. This is one of the easier problems to deal with, unlike the food allergies where you are not sure which of the many ingredients is causing the reaction, you know that it is the dust that is bothering the dog. Take a little extra time and clean your house more thoroughly, you will be surprised at the places that collect dust that you would never even think about.

Another one of the most common dog allergies is fleas, fleas can cause your dog to lose their hair due to all the excessive scratching. Fleas are harmful for all your pets, once they start feeding off the blood of your pet it puts that pet at risk of becoming anemic, but when your dog is allergic to the fleas the situation is even worse, because their immune system has already been weaken due to the reaction. It is important that you do whatever it takes to get rid of not only the fleas but there eggs also, treating your dog and not taking the time to treat the house will just create a flea cycle that you will have to deal with once a month.

If you are unable to pinpoint what it is that is making your dog sick, and you have tried everything from changing their food to buying the best flea treatment on the market, than it is time to take your dog to the vet. It is important that you take care of your dog, you want your pet to live a long, happy, and healthy life. Remember to be patient when you are trying to fix this problem, your dog cannot tell you what is bothering them it is your job to figure it out.
