What Is A Workplace Romance Policy

At present, people have been so busy with their careers that they end up blaming their work as the reason for having zero love life, and a non-active date life. There maybe times that the desire to multi-task dating and working, you end up finding someone within the four walls of your company.

May it be a fling or a lifetime partnership, there are ups and downs to office romances which is why some companies impose non-nepotism and even for personal reasons, employees choose not to date from work so as not to complicate things.

When women have began to enjoy the privileges of working in some of the top companies in the country and holding one of the highest position there is it has been clear that men, should they not find time to date people from outside their company, they have another option of getting a date within the comforts of their office.

Not only they already have one similar thing to talk about when they get together which is the office they can easily set up a date/meet without the complications of calling. They sometimes have similar personal interests as pre-determined by the companys human resources people and the age gap is not that big.
What is a Workplace Romance Policy?

Little did a lot of people know, workplace romance is one of the employers worries. According to the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) workplace romance survey, results show that majority of the companies do not have a written or a formal policy discussing romance between employees.

Here in the Philippines, there are a few companies who have written policies with regards to workplace romance, while some have personally decided not to engage in such act, but only a few have done the workplace romance and luckily, have found true happiness.

According to Gary Powell in his Journal of Management, at some times, workplace romances present a threat to the organizational effectiveness through their negative effects on their co-workers. On the other hand, workplace romances can enhance workplace effectiveness with their positive influences on their co-workers.

Having a romance, or if your dating your co-worker, may be non-oblivious to your colleagues. But it is best that you keep things private. Some companies have established training about workplace romances and the related ones to the people who are holding the supervisory and managerial positions.

It may seem uncomfortable for your superior to be lecturing their subordinates about their present relationship, but expect it to be last time you will be hearing it from them because with these types of policies, there are certain sanctions equated to it.

Lets face it, you are only human and one of characteristic you are capable of is the ability to feel. Should you feel that you are getting interested with a co-worker, keep in mind these reminders:
Be familiar with the Workplace romance policy, written or not. Try to keep your present situation as much as possible. If there is a need to tell, confide with your closest friends. Strictly no Public Display of Affection. If there are instances that you both are working on the same project, be professional as possible.
